Okay, you guys! I’ve officially got a new obsession, and this time, it’s CHEAP! (Hallelujah, amirite?!)
For New Year’s Eve, I was Alex’s date to a black-tie wedding. First of all, I’ve never been to a NYE wedding before, but now I’m tempted to put that in my back pocket… Secondly, I had absolutely nothing to wear. I never do this, but I waited until the absolute last minute to find a dress for this wedding. I scoured Macy’s, Dillard’s, and any little boutique I could find, but I could not find any formal gowns that weren’t for the Mother of the Bride.
Then I remembered Rent the Runway. About two years ago, I used RTR for the first time when Alex and I attended the Barrister’s Ball for my law school. I rented the cutest dress for close to $50 bucks. (Can you beat that? I think not…)
So I got online and within seconds began adding dresses to my “Hearts” list. Before I knew it, I had ten to choose from. I ended up going with this timeless midi-length black gown. Best part: it was $55. Now this is a name-brand gown that retails for almost $300, but I was able to rent it for…again…only fifty-five dollars. Still blows my mind.
I paid extra for overnight shipping, received it the next day, tried it on, and was immediately blown away. (I’m still tempted to rent it again just to hang out around the house in it.) I’ve been a little self-conscious lately, because for the first time in my life since basically puberty, I’ve had a seriously quick weight gain. I focused a lot more on school and work this past semester, and completely fell off the health train, and the scale reflected it, so I wasn’t exactly excited about putting on a dress and getting dolled up for this wedding. I say all of that to say this: I didn’t think about that once in this dress. It fits so well between the perfect height of the top which prevents that awkward overflow you get in a lot of strapless dresses, to the curve of the waist which gives you an hourglass shape even if you’ve got a little bit of extra handle to love. Needless to say – I love this dress (and the price).
I seriously need you guys to check this website out – it is a game changer. In addition to the one-time random rentals, you can sign up for a monthly service where you can rent an unlimited number of dresses for a base price of $159 (you do get $80 off your first two months with code “YESPLEASE”), so if you go to a lot of formal events (or if you’re like me and want to live in pretty dresses every day), you should check that out. But if you want to just get your toes wet for your first rental, you can use this link and get $30 off your first order!
Below I’ve linked several dresses that I’ve got my eye on, so um, cough cough, Alex, can you bring out those wedding invitations? We need to send some RSVPs…
Have a wonderful night you guys! And Happy New Year!
