Sephora Employee Tells All! (Just in time for the sale!)

Hellllllo lovely people!! It’s been a long time, no post! Also, can we talk about what a crazy time it is right now?! COVID-19 has sent us all for a whirlwind, so wherever you are, I’m thinking of you and your families, wishing you safety, and hoping that this menial blog post about beauty products brings you a couple of minutes of solidarity in all of the craziness!

The annual Sephora sale is around again, and if you’ve followed TCF for a while, you know that I am all over this baby! This year, however, the sale inspired a new kind of blog post! I decided that instead of just flooding your timeline with my own personal recommendations, that we could all benefit from hearing a Sephora’s employee’s perspective! My friend Shelly is giving us the inside scoop on what really qualifies as a quality purchase to a beauty expert. Let’s get started!

Q: What’s your position at Sephora, and how long have you worked there?

A: Store Director; a little more than 6 months.

Q: What’s your favorite park of working at Sephora?

A: Getting to play with makeup at work!!

Q: What made you fall in love with all things beauty?

A: When I was 10 I saw an ad for skincare (a drugstore brand called 10-0-6, anyone not Gen X prob won’t remember it!) and begged my mum to buy it for me. She finally caved so I started a skincare routine. And I just built on it and upgraded my products as I got older. Of course, makeup came into play sometime in middle school!

Q: Why should we be willing to spend more money on beauty products? Is the quality truly better? Does it really make a difference?

A: In most cases, you generally get what you pay for, especially in skincare. But don’t only look at the price tag, a high price doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. Our in house brand, Sephora Collection, is very moderately priced but still amazing quality.

Q: If you were deserted on an island, what are the 3 beauty products that you’d have to have with you?

A: Sunscreen, lip balm, and moisturizer.

Q: What’s one thing at Sephora that isn’t hyped about but should be?

A: I think people forget that we sell fragrance! We carry some of the best-selling fragrances in the world, some of which are exclusive to us.

Q: What’s one skincare item or step that everyone should have in their routine?

A: Sunscreen!! It truly is the best anti-aging product there is. You should be wearing it every single day, even if you plan to be indoors all day. This applies to everyone, no matter your skin tone. Once more, in case you didn’t hear me: everyone needs sunscreen!!

Q: What are your favorite new releases of Spring 2020?

A: I’m super excited about the launch of Drunk Elephant hair products. This isn’t technically a spring launch but I’m obsessed with Fenty’s mascara. It launched just before the holidays and it’s amaaaaazing.

Q: What’s one product at Sephora that has truly stood the test of time?

A: Fresh Soy facial cleanser. It’s sooo good.

Q: Rapid fire…favorite question from each category…GO!

A: We are supposed to remain unbiased and not have faves, so I’ll say these are what I’m using for now…

I hope you guys enjoyed this interview-style blog post. I know I learned a lot and definitely keyed in on a few pieces to pick up during the sale! Let me know in the comments what you’re grabbing! Happy shopping!
